How to file a 311 request
Many US cities run a 311 service for non-emergency problems like potholes, broken streetlights and missed trash pickups. A clear report gets routed faster.
- Check that it isn't an emergency. For anything dangerous or urgent, call 911.
- Find your city's 311 service. Most have a website or app, and many take calls on 311.
- Note the exact location: the street address, nearest cross street or pole number.
- Describe the problem plainly and add a photo if the form allows it.
- Save the case number. You'll need it to check the status or follow up.
- If nothing happens, follow up with the case number, or contact your local council member's office.
Questions people ask
Does every city have 311?
Not every city. Where there isn't one, Fo finds the right department and reports it there by phone, email or online form.
Can Fo make the city fix it faster?
No one can guarantee that. Fo files a clear report, keeps the case number and follows up so it doesn't get forgotten.
Does Fo need my personal details?
Some cities ask for a name or contact info, and some take anonymous reports. Fo asks you before sharing anything.
